Ashtanga

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and structured form of yoga rooted in ancient teachings and systematized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century. It follows a fixed sequence of postures, performed in a specific order with each movement synchronized to the breath. Known for its rigor and transformative potential, Ashtanga Yoga emphasizes consistency and dedication. The practice helps build strength, flexibility, and mental focus. There are six progressive series, and practitioners advance through them as they develop greater strength, discipline, and experience.

Dynamic Flow

Dynamic Flow Yoga is a vibrant, energizing style of yoga that emphasizes continuous movement, breath synchronization, and fluid transitions between poses. It blends the mindfulness of traditional yoga with the intensity of a workout, creating a practice that’s both meditative and physically invigorating.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs,” is a traditional martial art and combat sport from Thailand that combines striking and clinching techniques. Known for its use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins, it is one of the most effective and versatile striking disciplines in the world. Rooted in centuries of Thai culture and history, Muay Thai evolved from ancient battlefield tactics into a sport that emphasizes power, precision, and endurance. Today, it is practiced globally for self-defense, fitness, and competitive fighting, with its influence evident in modern mixed martial arts (MMA). Beyond physical skill, Muay Thai promotes discipline, respect, and mental resilience.

Pilates

Pilates is a workout that involves simple, repetitive exercises that increase muscle strength, endurance, flexibility and postural stability. Yoga and pilates are a great combination, as both complement one another holistically and physically.

Power Flow

Power Flow is a dynamic and energetic style of yoga that blends strength, flexibility, and breath control into a continuous sequence of movements. It is often inspired by Vinyasa yoga, where poses flow smoothly from one to the next, creating a fast-paced and challenging workout. This style helps build endurance while promoting mental focus and mindfulness.

Chakra Vinyasa

Explore the energy within through a dynamic and meditative Chakra Vinyasa Yoga practice. Guided by intention, breath, and movement, we’ll explore each of the seven chakras, focusing on one or more Chakra in each class—connecting to the deeper currents of intuition, healing, and spiritual alignment. Through asanas, mantra, meditation, and visualization, you’ll clear energetic blockages, raise your vibration, and return to your natural state of balance and wholeness. This is a soulful practice for those seeking inner peace, spiritual connection, and radiant transformation. Come to realign, release, and recharge from the inside out. All levels welcome.

Hatha

Hatha yoga is a traditional style that cultivates balance between body and mind through physical postures, breathwork, and meditation. Practiced at a steady, mindful pace, it builds strength, flexibility, and inner calm. Accessible for beginners yet enriching for experienced yogis, Hatha supports overall well-being and prepares the mind and body for deeper awareness and spiritual growth.

Restorative Flow

Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing practice that focuses on slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching. Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga, restorative yoga involves holding poses for extended periods — often with the support of props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks — to encourage deep relaxation and stress relief.

Slow Flow

Slow Flow Yoga is a gentle, fluid style of yoga that moves at a slower pace than traditional Vinyasa Yoga. It focuses on mindful transitions, allowing practitioners to hold poses for longer. This style is great for beginners or those looking for a more meditative practice, as it provides time to explore alignment, breath control (pranayama), and introspection. It also helps improve balance, resilience, and flexibility while reducing stress and anxiety

Trauma Yoga

Trauma yoga is a therapeutic approach that integrates traditional yoga practices with trauma-informed techniques to support individuals healing from trauma and its effects. It focuses on creating a safe place where you can reconnect with your body and foster healing.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic style of yoga that emphasizes the seamless flow of movement synchronized with breath, creating a flowing sequence of poses known as asanas. Often referred to as “flow yoga,” Vinyasa integrates intentional transitions that form a meditative, almost dance-like rhythm on the mat. The term “Vinyasa” comes from Sanskrit, meaning “to place in a special way,” highlighting the importance of purposeful movement and breath awareness. It’s perfect for building strength, boosting flexibility, and finding your zen.

Yin/Yang

This practice combines both the movement and flow of a vinyasa practice and the stillness and calm of yin. Transforming seamlessly from one to the other, you can notice the reaction your body, breath and mind has in this class.

Breathwork

Explore the natural ability of your body to heal through conscious connected breathwork, accessing deeper layers of your brain to get a different perspective of past situations so you can feel them and therefore move through them, helping you to embrace a better version of yourself.

Exploration of Reiki

Reiki is a holistic healing practice that originated in Japan. It is based on the principle that a universal life energy flows through all living beings. Practitioners of Reiki channel this energy through their hands. In the Exploration of Reiki session, Ima will guide you through the principles of Reiki and will hold a group Reiki session. One of Reiki’s defining qualities is its innate wisdom—it goes where it is most needed, not necessarily where one might expect or want it to go. Come join a session and experience the healing powers of Reiki!

Lotus-Guided Meditation

The Lotus Guided Meditation is a transformative practice that uses the lotus flower as a symbol of purity and enlightenment. By visualizing oneself as a lotus seed emerging from the mud, practitioners embark on a journey toward personal growth and spiritual awakening. This meditation fosters inner peace, clarity, and resilience, encouraging individuals to rise above challenges and blossom into their true potential.

Sound Healing

Sound Healing is an ancient therapeutic practice that uses calming sounds to help people feel better physically and mentally. The idea is simple: by listening to certain sounds or vibrations, like those from singing bowls, gongs, or even a gentle voice, we can help the body relax, reduce stress, and even sleep better. This way we can restore balance within the body, the mind and the soul. It cultivates a deep sense of peace. Allow healing frequencies to flow through every cell, guiding you to relaxation, balance, and blissful connection within and beyond.

Reiki & Sound Healing

Ima will introduce you to a well-curated playlist of healing sounds whilst you experience the power of Reiki. Based on the principle that a universal life energy flows through all living beings, Ima will channel this energy through her hands to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The combination of Reiki and sound creates a deeply restorative environment, helping to release blockages, calm the mind and invite balance into your whole being.

Yin

Yin Yoga is a meditative style of yoga that focuses on deep stretching and long-held

poses. They are typically held for 3 to 5 minutes

or longer. Unlike more dynamic forms like Vinyasa, Yin Yoga targets connective tissues such as ligaments and fascia rather than muscles. It helps to improve flexibilty, circulation and mindfulness

Yin & Nidra

A slow, introspective style of yoga that focuses on deep stretching and stillness. Unlike more dynamic practices, yin targets the fascia and connective tissues by holding poses for 2–5 minutes or longer. This is then combined with Nidra, a guided meditation that sends you into a state between wakefullness and sleep. You will come out of class feeling a sense of calm and peace.

Community Class

Something you might not know is that every week we run a free yoga class for the local community. The ladies from the villages nearby join us at Arise for an hour of beginner yoga hosted by one of our lovely resident teachers. Every teacher brings something different to the space, so sometimes it might be a beginner Vinyasa class or it could be an introduction to Reiki or a guided mediation. If you know of anyone who would benefit from this class, please let us know and we can provide the details.

Full Moon Circle

As Sri Lankans celebrate the full moon in light of Buddhist tradition, we invite you to join us for a special ceremony where we reflect and connect on our own and with each other. Under the glowing light of the full moon and using its energy, we release what no longer serves us and manifest our desires and set our intentions for the next moon cycle. All done through meditation, movement and pranayama. Circles are held every month and hosted by different facilitators.

Kirtan is a deeply spiritual practice of chanting or singing sacred hymns, often performed in a call-and-response format.
